First, you check for the .htaccess file. It is present in the root directory of your wordpress. If it is missing, you can create a new file by going to the WordPress dashboard -> Settings -> Permalinks and click on the “Save Changes” button without doing any changes. This will generate a new default .htaccess file.
If you are getting errors messages related to .htaccess file or the redirections on your site are not working as expected, then your .htaccess file is corrupted. You can delete the existing file, and regenerate it using the above method.
