SQL a programming language used to work with data in relational databases
MySQL is a platform that implement the SQL standard
The basic points of differences between SQL and MySQL are-
1. SQL is a Microsoft owned, proprietary software which means it is not free to use for all whereas MySQL is an Oracle owned, open-source platform which is free for anyone to use.
2. SQL is a programming language meanwhile MySQL is not and supports various other programming languages like C++, python, PHP, etc.
3. SQL is used to maintain and retrieve queries from the databases whereas MySQL is a RDBMS that uses SQL to query the data.
4. The absence of third party makes the server of SQL more secure whereas MySQL being an open source platform is prone to more security risks.
SQL (Structured Query Language) is a standardized language used for managing Databases. It can also be used with different DBMS.
MySQL is a specific Relational database management system which implements SQL. It is maintained by Oracle corporation.
