I learned about hooks but want to know more about them and how to use them for customization.

Hooks are functions or pieces of code that you can use to customize your WordPress website.
They help code extensibility to fulfill custom requirements which might not be fulfilled by core WordPress code. These hooks add additional functionalities in existing WordPress code.
Hooks are of two types – filter hooks and action hooks.
Filter hook: As the name suggests, this hook takes in data, and modifies it before displaying in the web browser. The modified data is returned to WordPress by the filter hook
Action hook: The action hook can be used to alter the default behavior of our WordPress function. It is used for customizations such as amending the sidebar items, appending items in existing layout, etc. In action hook, it is not required to pass any information back to WordPress by the hook after action has been performed.
