Both involve a mix of real world environment and virtual information , so are they same things?

Is there any difference between augmented reality and mixed reality or are they the same?

Augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) are related but not the same. In simple terms, AR overlays virtual content onto the real world, enhancing it with additional information. It uses devices like smartphones or tablets to display virtual objects or information in real time. MR, on the other hand, blends virtual and real-world elements more seamlessly. It allows users to interact with virtual objects that appear to be integrated into the real environment. Unlike AR, MR typically requires dedicated headsets or glasses, such as Microsoft’s HoloLens, to achieve this immersive experience. So, while both AR and MR involve mixing real-world and virtual elements, MR offers a more integrated and interactive experience.
This was really helpful. Thank you.
Augmented reality and virtual reality are similar to each other but they’re not the same. First let’s talk about augmented reality. The main concept of augmented reality is to add to the reality we experience at any given time instead of overwriting the current surroundings. AR will place digital objects in your environment through your handheld device. With this being said AR includes trying on makeup, glasses or clothing. Now let’s come to mixed reality. Mixed reality is similar to augmented reality as it won’t remove you from your surroundings, but rather read your surroundings and add digital objects to your environment. However, unlike with AR content, which can be retrieved using a mobile device, you will need a headset to experience mixed reality.
Mixed reality (MR) is a term used to describe the merging of a real-world environment and a computer-generated one. Physical and virtual objects may co-exist in mixed reality environments and interact in real time
No, they are not same, although they are related topics.
Augmented reality refers to the technology that takes digital information like virtual data onto the real world. Augmented reality adds computer generated elements which can be amplified in the real-world environment with in real time. this is used through devices like smart phones, smart glasses or headsets.
Mixed reality combines both real and virtual worlds by blending virtual content with the real environment. the virtual objects can appear as if they exist in the same space (physical) as real objects and it can be interacted in a more natural way. it requires dedicated headsets like magic leap, to achieve a great level of immersion and interaction.
Augmented reality adds digital information to the real world, mixed reality merges virtual and real elements together where both can interact.
