“Redefining personhood” – it is about change in character and behavior of a person. So, it is obvious that changes will occur when you’ll try to cap your original self. In a way to acquire fame and others attention, we act in a superficial manner to satisfy our craving for these desires. And eventually, acting like a copycat we loose our real self. This is a kind of mental mutation which happens due to the use of social media when we try to become a lion by using a lion mask. From inside we remain the same but we behave like a lion; a lion by appearance but a cat by heart. Our artificiality is supported by social media tools like photo-filters; even we forget who we are!
This redefining of personhood gives an upper hand to social media in simulating real-life social behavior. And depending on the circumstances, it can be good or bad. As one can become good by perceiving good ideas but mostly people choose the wrong path.
Once a philosopher said, ‘Mob has no brain.’ And unfortunately, social media does mob-making. Good examples are strikes for social reformation and bad examples are riots.
